French President Expresses Condolences on the Death of the King of Norway

Paris, August 28 (KUNA) -- French President Emmanuel Macron expressed his condolences on Friday on the death of Norway’s King Harald V, who passed away at the age of 89 after more than three decades on the throne. In a post on his X (formerly Twitter) account, Macron said, “With deep sorrow, I received the news of the passing of His Majesty King Harald, who worked diligently throughout his reign to strengthen the ties between Norway and France.” He added, “I will always cherish the warm welcome he and Queen Sonja extended to my wife and me in Oslo in June 2025.” Macron offered his sincere condolences, on behalf of himself and the French people, to the new King Haakon and the Norwegian people on the death of the late king. The Norwegian royal palace announced earlier on Friday that King Harald V had died at the National Hospital in the capital, Oslo. With the passing of the late king, the throne automatically passed to his son, Crown Prince Haakon (53), who ascended to the throne as King Haakon VII. (End) M.B. / T.M.A.
