Iranian Foreign Minister welcomes the ongoing role of regional and neighboring countries in de-escalating tensions

Tehran, August 27 (KUNA) – Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi welcomed on Thursday the ongoing role of regional and neighboring countries in helping to ease tensions between Iran and the United States. The official Iranian news agency (IRNA) reported that Araghchi’s positive stance came during his meeting with Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani to discuss developments in the crisis in the Arabian Gulf region.

Araghchi pointed to Iran’s position on the need to enhance trust among regional states and establish regional security mechanisms, stating that “achieving this goal requires all regional countries to adhere to the principle of good neighborliness.” He considered that the situation in the Strait of Hormuz is the result of the United States’ military aggression and Israel’s occupation against Iran, noting that “Iran was fulfilling its obligations under the ceasefire agreement in good faith, including Article 5, when the United States obstructed the implementation of the agreement by violating its commitments.”

He affirmed his country’s determination to safeguard its interests and national security, and to use all its capabilities to defend its sovereignty and national interests.

For his part, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman emphasized the importance of continuing consultations to reduce tensions and insecurity in the region, highlighting Qatar’s principled stance on protecting regional security and stability.

These talks come amid the recent launch by the United States of the “Operation Economic Pariah,” aimed at cutting off “every economic lifeline that feeds the Iranian regime,” targeting sectors such as digital assets, technology, gold, aviation, and maritime shipping. (End) M.W. / S.A.M.
