Libyan-American talks to enhance military cooperation and combat "terrorism"

Tunis, Aug 27 (KUNA) -- The Chief of the General Staff of the Libyan Army, General Salah al-Din al-Namroush, held talks with General Claude Theodore, Commander of the U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) Special Operations Command, to enhance military cooperation and develop the defensive and security capabilities of the Libyan Army in combating terrorism.

The Libyan General Staff of the Armed Forces said in a statement on Thursday that the two sides reviewed programs for the training and qualification of Libyan special forces, enhancing their combat and operational proficiency to strengthen their capacity to confront security threats and combat terrorism. They also discussed the logistical and technical preparations for the participation of Libyan forces in the Flintlock 2027 exercise.

The statement conveyed that both sides emphasized the importance of supporting the process of unifying the Libyan military institution and enhancing coordination and cooperation among its various components, thereby contributing to consolidating stability and building a unified military institution capable of efficiently carrying out its national duties.

Furthermore, the two sides pointed out, according to the statement, the importance of partnership and cooperation in supporting stability, enhancing border security, and protecting vital facilities and energy sources, in a manner that serves common interests and supports regional security.
