Qatar-Libya talks to enhance cooperation and support stability and political and economic pathways in Libya

Tunis, Aug 26 (KUNA) -- Abdulhamid Dbeibah, head of Libya’s Government of National Unity, held talks today with Qatar’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mohammed Al-Khalifi, on developments in bilateral relations and ways to enhance cooperation, support stability, and advance political and economic trajectories in Libya. The Libyan News Agency reported that the meeting addressed developments in the quadrilateral cooperation mechanism between Libya, Qatar, Turkey, and Italy on the issue of irregular migration. The two sides discussed strengthening joint cooperation programs in capacity-building, combating irregular migration, and supporting voluntary return programs, thereby enhancing coordination among the four countries. Dbeibah expressed his welcome for the Qatari minister’s visit to Tripoli and Benghazi, emphasizing the importance of continued engagement with all Libyan stakeholders and noting his government’s expectation of a broader Qatari role in the coming period to support stability and consensus-building efforts and to enhance regional and international coordination. These talks come within the framework of monitoring the quadrilateral mechanism involving Libya, Turkey, Italy, and Qatar, which officially launched in the first half of 2026. On June 18, the parties participated in operating the joint operations room at its headquarters in Tripoli to strengthen security and technical cooperation, border monitoring, and the dismantling of smuggling networks across the Mediterranean.
