Russian and Egyptian Foreign Ministers Discuss Current Situation in the Middle East Region in Phone Call

Moscow, August 26 (KUNA) -- Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held a telephone conversation with his Egyptian counterpart, Dr. Badr Abdelatty, on Wednesday to discuss the current situation in the Middle East and the latest developments in the Russia-Ukraine war. The Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that Lavrov briefed Abdelatty on developments related to the Ukrainian crisis. The statement added that the two ministers emphasized the need to activate political and diplomatic efforts to ease tensions and de-escalate the situation in the Middle East. It noted that both sides also stressed the importance of continuing close coordination between Moscow and Cairo to enhance trade and economic cooperation between the two countries. The call comes within the framework of coordination and consultation between Russia and Egypt on a number of regional and international issues, foremost among them developments in the Middle East and the Ukrainian crisis.
