Britain announces establishment of international center to combat extremism in cooperation with four countries

London, Aug 26 (KUNA) -- Britain announced on Wednesday the establishment of an international center to counter extremism, in cooperation with four allied countries within the “Five Eyes” network, which includes the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. The British government confirmed in a statement that during the foreign ministers’ meeting of the Five Eyes countries in Sydney, Australia, British Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood secured the approval of her counterparts in the alliance to establish a joint and permanent center to counter violent extremism in the British capital, London. The center will bring together counter-terrorism and counter-extremism specialists from the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, forming a hub for the exchange of intelligence, cooperation, and early intervention. The statement added that the five countries agreed on a new diversion program that enables authorities to intervene more quickly when individuals show signs of extremism or obsession with violence, noting that this will also help address the growing phenomenon of online extremism among young people. It noted that the five countries will work closely with technology companies, sector partners, and governments to take faster action against harmful content and enhance user protection, thereby exerting greater pressure to remove illegal content or content that may violate terms of service.
