Kuwait City, Aug 26 (KUNA) -- August 26:

1961 – Kuwait’s Emir, Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salim Al-Sabah, issued an emiri decree regarding the elections for the Constituent Assembly, which aimed to establish a system of governance on clear and solid foundations to issue a constitution that draws its provisions from the country’s conditions and is based on democratic principles.

1992 – The UN Security Council welcomed the decisions of the Kuwait-Iraq Boundary Demarcation Commission.

2000 – Mutlaq Al-Shalimi died at the age of 63. He had served as a member of the National Assembly in 1981 and won a seat in the National Council in 1990.

2010 – The Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development provided a loan of four million dinars to the Republic of Zambia to help finance the Kalabo-Siuna-Angola border road project.

2018 – Shooter Mansour Al-Rashidi won Kuwait’s first gold medal at the 18th Asian Games in Jakarta, Indonesia, in the skeet shooting event.

2018 – Kuwaiti national karate team player Ali Al-Shatti won the gold medal at the 18th Asian Games in Jakarta, Indonesia, in the under-67 kg category.

2024 – Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) signed a long-term sale and purchase agreement with QatarEnergy for liquefied natural gas (LNG). Under the agreement, QatarEnergy will supply KPC with three million tons of LNG annually for 15 years, starting in 2025.

2025 – The Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development signed a loan agreement with the Republic of Nicaragua worth four million Kuwaiti dinars to help finance the construction of the Bernabéola Bridge on the Rioblanco-Siuna highway. (End) M.B.R. / N.S.N.
