Commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces announces its dissolution as an independent military force following its full integration into the Syrian Army

Kuwait City, Aug 25 (KUNA) -- The commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), Mazloum Abdi, announced on Tuesday the completion of the forces’ mission and their dissolution as an independent military entity, following the completion of their integration into brigades of the Syrian Army. He affirmed that this step comes within the framework of transitioning to a new phase characterized by peace, stability, and the building of a new Syria.

Syrian state news agency (SANA) quoted Abdi as saying during a press conference held at the People’s Palace in Damascus that the country has entered a new phase whose hallmark is peace and the building of a new Syria. He clarified that, following an agreement with Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa and the completion of the integration of the forces into Syrian Army brigades, the end of the SDF’s mission and its dissolution as an independent military force are being announced today.

Abdi added, “We want this day to mark the beginning of a genuine transition from battlefields to construction sites, and from the era of weapons to the era of peace.”

Regarding education in the Kurdish language, Abdi stated that President al-Sharaa has, on several occasions, affirmed the right of Kurds to receive education in their language, noting an open stance toward this right and the future development of related regulations. (End) A.S.
