Egypt welcomes US decision to remove Syria from state sponsors of terrorism list

Cairo, August 25 (KUNA) -- Egypt welcomed today, Tuesday, the United States’ decision to remove Syria from the list of state sponsors of terrorism, describing it as a step that would support efforts to achieve stability in Syria, foster economic recovery, and enable reconstruction. In a statement, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed Egypt’s hope to continue supporting the Syrian people during this phase, in a manner that would enable the Syrian state to restore its stability, strengthen its national institutions, and preserve its unity, sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity. It affirmed that respecting Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity constitutes a fundamental pillar for achieving sustainable stability in the country and the region, emphasizing the necessity of continuing the fight against terrorism and extremism in all their forms and manifestations, and dealing resolutely with the issue of foreign terrorist fighters. It also stressed the importance of continuing to launch a comprehensive political process involving all components of the Syrian people, in a manner that safeguards the unity and sovereignty of the Syrian state and fulfills the Syrian people’s aspirations for security, stability, and development.
