Yemeni Leadership Council Approves Deterrence Measures Against Houthi-Controlled Centers
Aden, August 25 (KUNA) -- The Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) today approved additional deterrent military and security measures against command and control centers and military capabilities belonging to the Houthi militias, reaffirming its commitment to restoring state institutions and extending their authority across the entire national territory.
The state-run Yemeni News Agency reported that these decisions were made during a PLC meeting chaired by its president, Rashad al-Alimi, with all members and Prime Minister Shuaib Ahmad Mansour present, to discuss developments in the military, security, and economic situations, as well as the state’s strategic options in confronting the ongoing escalation by Houthi militias on the path to restoring state institutions and ending the coup.
The Council stressed the need to adopt all legitimate and necessary measures to protect Yemeni citizens, sovereign facilities, and national interests, including proactive action against threat sources, command and control centers, and military capabilities used or prepared by the Houthi militias to target the Yemeni Armed Forces, civilians, and vital infrastructure.
It commended the high efficiency demonstrated by government forces across their various military formations in deterring the wave of escalation, thwarting militia attacks, inflicting losses on their capabilities, and achieving key military objectives. It noted that this performance reflects a significant shift in the readiness of state institutions to defend the country’s assets and the interests of its people.
The Council pointed out that the army and all military formations are ready to carry out their constitutional duties, seize the initiative, and make the Houthi militias’ escalation more costly for their leadership, capabilities, and funding sources. It emphasized that the era of impunity for cities, targeting civilians, and attacking national facilities without cost has ended, and that any new escalation will have direct repercussions on the tools used to carry it out.
The Council directed maintaining military, security, and intelligence readiness at peak levels, enhancing protection and early warning measures, continuing integrated deterrence, and preventing the militias from achieving any moral gains.
The PLC renewed its reassurance to Yemeni citizens in areas under Houthi militia control that the state’s struggle is against the coup project and weapons outside state institutions, not against a region, tribe, or sect. It affirmed the state’s commitment to protecting private property, public service, and citizens’ rights, while preventing acts of revenge, chaos, exclusion, and marginalization. (End) S.N.S./H.M.F
