Pakistani Army Chief Holds Comprehensive Talks with Iranian Leaders to Halt Escalation, Open the Strait of Hormuz, and Achieve Peace

Islamabad, Aug 25 (KUNA) -- The Pakistani military announced on Tuesday that Pakistan and Iran exchanged views on regional peace during a visit by Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir, accompanied by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, to Iran. According to a press release issued by the Pakistani military’s media wing, Munir and Naqvi concluded a one-day visit as part of Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts to end the current crisis, explore ways to achieve lasting peace, and permanently resolve instability in the region. The statement clarified that the Pakistani delegation met with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Ali Akbar Velayati (representing the Supreme Leader on the Supreme National Security Council), Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, and Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni. It added that “comprehensive talks focused on measures to prevent further escalation, reopen the Strait of Hormuz, and expedite the end of the conflict.” The statement noted that both sides also exchanged views on regional peace and ways to reach a negotiated settlement to conflicts, highlighting that Iranian leadership appreciated Pakistan’s constructive role and its sincere efforts to facilitate dialogue, de-escalate tensions, and achieve a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
