Moscow, August 24 (KUNA) -- Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held talks today, Monday, with his Indian counterpart, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, on regional and international developments, including the situation in Afghanistan, the Iranian file, and the crisis in Ukraine, emphasizing the importance of continuing dialogue and enhancing coordination between the two countries.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the two ministers exchanged views on a number of regional and international issues and agreed to continue and deepen the existing dialogue, based on mutual trust, at various levels. The statement added that the talks also addressed ways to strengthen Russian-Indian cooperation within the framework of bilateral relations and the partnership between Moscow and New Delhi.

Lavrov and Jaishankar’s discussions come as part of the Indian minister’s visit to Russia on August 23 and 24, during which he is presiding over the 27th session of the Russian-Indian Inter-Governmental Commission on Trade and Economic, Scientific, Technological, and Cultural Cooperation.

According to the statement, the Indian Foreign Ministry noted that Jaishankar’s visit aims to enhance bilateral cooperation, alongside exchanging views with Russian officials on regional and international developments.

In the same context, Jaishankar met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow today.
