Egyptian Foreign Minister stresses the importance of resuming implementation of the memorandum of understanding between Washington and Tehran

Cairo, Aug 24 (KUNA) -- Egyptian Foreign Minister Dr. Badr Abdelatty stressed on Monday the importance of resuming implementation of the memorandum of understanding reached between the United States and Iran, and returning to negotiations to de-escalate tensions and create conditions for reaching more comprehensive and sustainable understandings. The Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that this came during a phone call between Minister Abdelatty and his French counterpart Jean-Noël Barrot, during which they exchanged views and assessments on the rapid developments unfolding in the region. The statement clarified that Minister Abdelatty emphasized the necessity of prioritizing political and diplomatic solutions, working to halt escalation, and containing rising tensions to prevent the conflict from widening and the region from sliding into a broader cycle of instability. On the Palestinian issue, Abdelatty said that U.S. President Donald Trump’s peace plan constitutes a proposed framework for ending the conflict and achieving stability, highlighting the importance of committing to implementing the first and second phases of the plan. He added that it is essential for the Israeli occupation to fulfill its obligations and halt actions that undermine the prospects for peace, including settlement expansion. The two ministers, according to the statement, also stressed the importance of supporting stability in Syria and preserving its sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity. The statement further noted that the two ministers agreed to enhance bilateral cooperation in economic fields and to leverage promising opportunities available to French companies in the Egyptian market, alongside continuing coordination and consultation in the coming period to support regional stability and advance the settlement of crises through political and diplomatic means.
