Egypt calls for adopting integrated solutions and policies to maximize the benefits of natural resources

Cairo, Aug 24 (KUNA) -- Egyptian Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Dr. Hani Sweilam, called for adopting integrated solutions and policies that maximize the utilization of natural resources, support sustainable water and land management, and shift from responding to crises after they occur to enhancing preparedness and resilience.

The Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation stated in a statement on Monday that this came during a speech delivered by Sweilam at the opening of the high-level segment of the 17th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification, held in the Mongolian capital, Ulaanbaatar.

The Egyptian minister noted that his country participates in international discussions with extensive experience in addressing water scarcity through improving water resource use efficiency, expanding the reuse of agricultural wastewater, and implementing climate change adaptation projects, alongside enhancing the use of technology and innovation in managing the water system.

The high-level segment features the participation of ministers, heads of delegations, and representatives of international institutions and organizations to discuss ways to strengthen international efforts to combat desertification, land degradation, and drought, and to support the resilience of countries and communities against increasing pressures resulting from climate change.

The conference, held under the theme “Restoring Land, Restoring Hope,” began on August 17 and will continue until next Friday, with broad international and regional participation. (End) A.S.M./S.M.A.
