Minister of (Social Affairs) Discusses Preparation of a Comprehensive National Strategy for Protection from Domestic Violence

Kuwait City, August 23 (KUNA) – Dr. Amthal Al-Huwail, Minister of Social Affairs, Family, and Childhood, chaired on Sunday the second meeting of the National Committee for Protection from Domestic Violence, during which the preparation of a comprehensive national strategy and the enhancement of institutional coordination and rapid response mechanisms to reports and complaints were discussed.
In a press statement following the meeting, Minister Al-Huwail said the committee reviewed ways to activate the provisions of Legislative Decree No. 11 of 2026 concerning Protection from Domestic Violence. She added that the meeting addressed mechanisms for rapid response to reports and complaints in coordination with relevant authorities, ensuring clear and effective procedures to protect victims and harmonizing legal and social response pathways.
She explained that the committee examined initiatives presented by representatives of member entities and their alignment with prevention, awareness, intervention, and rehabilitation efforts, in accordance with established best practices.
The minister noted that the meeting discussed the necessity of strengthening coordination between government entities and civil society organizations to ensure role complementarity, enhance the efficiency of protection programs, and prevent duplication of tasks.
She pointed out that discussions highlighted the importance of launching extensive awareness campaigns regarding family members’ rights and means of their protection, based on current legislation, including the laws on Protection from Domestic Violence and Child Protection.
She reported that the committee tasked member entities with submitting their proposals within their respective areas of competence, in preparation for discussion, consolidation, and drafting of the comprehensive National Strategy for Protection from Domestic Violence.
