Minister of Justice: Significant decline in theft crimes by 43.4% during the first half of 2026

By Nasser Al-Shalbi, Kuwait City, 23 Aug (KUNA) -- Justice Minister and Legal Advisor Nasser Al-Sameet announced that statistics from the Ministry of Justice on cases registered before the Public Prosecution showed a 43.4 percent decline in theft cases during the first half of 2026 compared to the same period in 2025, with the total number of cases dropping from 781 to 442.
Speaking to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) on Sunday, Legal Advisor Al-Sameet said the decline included several of the more serious types of theft, most notably robbery cases, which fell by 66.4 percent from 107 to 36 cases. Meanwhile, cases of burglary involving breaking in, climbing over walls, or using unusual means decreased by 48.5 percent, from 334 to 172 cases.
He added that the statistics also recorded a 36.2 percent drop in other thefts, from 287 cases to 183 cases.
He pointed out that these indicators confirm the general trend of a decline in the number of serious crimes during the same period, coinciding with the government’s continued development of the penal system and ongoing security and awareness efforts to prevent and combat crime.
He noted that crime indicators continue to be monitored and linked to legislative reviews to consolidate the necessary protections for the security of society, individuals, and property. (End) N Sh
