French and British diplomats call for action against the occupation’s policy of “erasing Palestine.”

Paris, August 22 (KUNA) -- Former French and British diplomats, according to a letter circulated by French media on Saturday, have called for action against what they described as Israel’s occupation policy of “erasing Palestine.” According to France 24 and the French newspaper Le Monde, more than 100 former diplomats signed a letter addressed to French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, calling for the imposition of a trade and arms sales embargo to pressure Israel into accepting the establishment of a Palestinian state.

France 24 reported that the signatories urged their respective governments to act by imposing a series of sanctions aimed at protecting the rule of law, particularly in relation to Israel’s occupation policy, which is based on occupation and destruction. Le Monde noted that the former diplomats, in their open letter, stated that “our countries believe it is necessary to hold those responsible for war crimes and crimes against humanity accountable, and only then can our governments refute accusations of double standards.”

The letter pointed out that France and the United Kingdom recognized the State of Palestine last year, emphasizing the need to translate this belated step into reality through urgent action to protect the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination, at a time when the Israeli government is seeking to destroy any prospect of an independent Palestinian state.
