Egypt and Greece stress the need to avoid military escalation and prioritize the diplomatic track in the region

Cairo, Aug 22 (KUNA) -- Egypt and Greece stressed on Saturday the necessity of avoiding military escalation, prioritizing diplomatic channels, and safeguarding the security and freedom of international navigation in the region. The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that Egyptian Foreign Minister Dr. Badr Abdelatty and his Greek counterpart Giorgos Gerapetritis emphasized during a telephone call the importance of intensifying diplomatic efforts and supporting political solutions, given the serious repercussions of current tensions on energy security and global trade flows.
Regarding the Lebanese issue, the statement said the Egyptian Foreign Minister affirmed his country’s support for Lebanon’s sovereignty, unity, territorial integrity, and national institutions, calling on the Israeli occupation to commit to halting all military attacks on Lebanon and fully withdrawing from its territories, thereby enhancing the country’s security and stability and preventing the expansion of escalation circles in the region.
On another note, the two sides discussed developments in the Sudanese crisis, with Abdelatty affirming Egypt’s full support for Sudan’s unity, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national institutions. He stressed the importance of launching a comprehensive Sudanese political process that safeguards the interests of the Sudanese people and ensures the unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid to its rightful recipients, in coordination with regional and international partners.
The statement noted that the ministers reaffirmed during the call their commitment to strengthening the momentum in Egypt-Greece relations and expanding cooperation in economic, investment, and energy fields. (End) A.S.M./A.B.K.
