Pakistan and Malaysia Discuss Regional Developments and Enhance Bilateral Cooperation
Islamabad, Aug 21 (KUNA) -- Pakistan and Malaysia discussed today, Friday, regional developments and ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in security, defense, law enforcement, trade, and investment. The Pakistani Prime Minister’s Office said in a statement that this took place during a meeting between Malaysian Interior Minister Dato’ Ismail and Pakistani Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif at the Prime Minister’s Office in the Pakistani capital, Islamabad. According to the statement, the Pakistani Prime Minister reaffirmed his country’s commitment to continuing to strengthen the “close and fraternal” relations with Malaysia across various fields, praising Kuala Lumpur’s support for Islamabad’s efforts to achieve regional peace. It noted that the two sides discussed the regional situation, during which Sharif witnessed the signing of an agreement on the transfer of sentenced persons between the two countries. In a related development, the Malaysian minister and his accompanying delegation met with Pakistani Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir at the Army General Headquarters in Rawalpindi, where both sides discussed regional security developments and issues of mutual interest. Both sides affirmed the strength of relations between Pakistan and Malaysia, expressing their resolve to expand cooperation and engage in areas of common interest, while General Munir reiterated his country’s commitment to deepening defense cooperation and the strategic partnership with Malaysia.
