Turkey issues international arrest warrant against the Israeli prime minister on charges of committing "genocide"

Istanbul, Aug 21 (KUNA) -- Turkish Justice Minister Akin Kiris declared on Friday that his ministry has requested the Turkish Interior Ministry to issue an international arrest warrant (Red Notice) against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, as part of the legal proceedings brought against him on charges of committing “genocide.”

In a statement posted on his account on the Turkish social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Kiris noted that the judicial process regarding the attack on activists from the “Global Freedom Flotilla” in international waters, while they were en route to deliver humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, is ongoing.

He stated that the 11th High Criminal Court in Istanbul continues to examine case number 2026/108, which involves 35 defendants, including the Israeli prime minister and an Israeli official named Avigdor Moskovitch.

Kiris clarified that Netanyahu and Moskovitch are being tried in connection with the armed attack and the detention of activists in international waters, facing charges that include “crimes against humanity,” “genocide,” “aggravated deprivation of liberty,” “intentional harm,” “torture,” “damage to property,” “described looting,” and “kidnapping of transport vehicles.”

The Turkish Justice Minister affirmed that Turkey, under the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, will continue to stand with the Palestinian people and the humanitarian conscience, and will take all necessary steps to bring those responsible for crimes against humanity to justice.

On October 1, the Israeli occupation army attacked 42 vessels belonging to the “Global Freedom Flotilla” as they sailed in international waters toward Gaza, arresting hundreds of international activists aboard and transferring them to Ktzi’ot Prison before beginning their deportation on October 3 of the same month.

The genocide in Gaza has resulted in more than 73,000 killed and over 174,000 wounded Palestinians, most of them children and women, and has caused destruction affecting 90 percent of the infrastructure. (End) T.A./A.M.S.
