Pakistani Army: 49 terrorists killed in a series of intensive intelligence operations
Islamabad, Aug 21 (KUNA) -- The Pakistani military announced on Friday the killing of 49 terrorists as part of a series of intensive joint intelligence operations carried out in coordination with the Pakistan Police in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in the north and Balochistan province in the south.
In a statement, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the official media wing and spokesperson for the Pakistan Armed Forces, said that "security forces carried out, over the past few days, a series of intensive joint intelligence operations in cooperation with police forces, as part of a continuous counter-terrorism campaign aimed at eliminating terrorists."
The statement clarified that the intensive intelligence operations launched in the areas of Bannu, North Waziristan, Orakzai, and Khyber in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa resulted in the killing of 12 terrorists, along with the seizure and destruction of large quantities of explosives, remote-controlled improvised explosive device (IED) components, weapons, ammunition, and motorcycles.
It added that 10 intelligence operations were conducted in Mastung, Mach, Khuzdar, and Bangur in Balochistan, successfully resulting in the killing of 37 terrorists, as well as the seizure and destruction of large quantities of weapons, explosive drums, and remote detonation equipment.
The statement noted that clearance operations are currently underway to eliminate any remaining terrorists in the area, as part of the counter-terrorism campaign launched by Pakistani security forces and law enforcement agencies, "which will continue at full capacity to eradicate the threat of externally supported terrorism."
These operations come amid an escalation in terrorist attacks in Pakistan, particularly in the provinces of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, which border Afghanistan. (End) S.B.K / A.B.K
