Kuwait national team loses to Qatar (19-30) in the Asian Junior Handball Championship

Kuwait City, Aug 21 (KUNA) -- Kuwait’s junior handball team suffered a 30-19 defeat to Qatar on Friday in the 11th Asian Junior Handball Championship, which serves as the qualifier for the 2027 IHF Junior World Championship. The tournament, hosted in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, features 10 national teams and runs until August 31.

In their second match of the championship, the Kuwaiti squad, known as the “Blue Handball Team,” fell to Qatar by the same scoreline of 30-19. Qatar dominated from the opening whistle, ending the first half with a 10-goal advantage (17-7). Although Kuwait showed relative improvement in the second half, it was not enough to change the outcome. The loss left Kuwait with two points, while Qatar moved to four points.

Kuwait had opened their campaign on Thursday with a 29-19 victory over Syria in Group B, which also includes Saudi Arabia, Iran, and Qatar. Kuwait will face Iran on Monday in their third match of the tournament. (End) H.M.S./T.A.B.
