Spain condemns Israeli occupation's decision to proceed with settlement projects in occupied territories
Madrid, August 21 (KUNA) -- The Spanish government strongly condemned on Friday the decision by the Israeli occupation government to issue a tender for the construction of more than 1,200 settlement units under the “1E” project, deeming it to undermine the geographical contiguity of Palestine and to separate East Jerusalem from the West Bank. In a statement, the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that all Israeli settlements in the occupied territories violate international law, hinder the implementation of the two-state solution, and constitute an obstacle to peace. The statement urged the occupation authorities to reverse that “decision that violates international law” and called on them to comply with their international obligations. It also called on the international community to shoulder its responsibilities in advancing the implementation of the two-state solution, which it described as the only path toward a just and lasting peace in the region.
