Russia announces strike on Ukrainian military industrial facility east of Kyiv

Moscow, August 21 (KUNA) – The Russian Ministry of Defense announced on Friday that its forces carried out a series of drone strikes targeting a Ukrainian military industrial facility in the town of Brovary, east of the capital Kyiv, stating that the attacks had taken the facility “completely out of service.” In a statement, the ministry said that crews from the Varangian Regiment conducted raids on the site, noting that real-time footage showed fires breaking out and thick smoke rising in several areas within the facility. It added that Russian forces also targeted temporary deployment sites, which it said belonged to units of Ukraine’s 159th Independent Mechanized Brigade in the village of Blahodatne in the Kharkiv region, using five FAB-500 glide bombs. The ministry explained that Russian reconnaissance had identified the deployment sites prior to the air strike, adding that the bombs were used to hit specific targets.
In a related development, the ministry reported that attack drones targeted warehouses at the Ukrainian port of Reni, located on the Danube River, during the past night, stating that they contained weapons, military equipment, and supplies intended for the Ukrainian Armed Forces. It affirmed that Russian forces continue to target Ukrainian port infrastructure used by the Ukrainian military, noting that, according to the Russian account, the strikes aim to disrupt the supply of weapons and military equipment.
Also in this context, the Russian Ministry of Defense indicated that its forces targeted a temporary Ukrainian deployment site in the Kherson region using FAB-3000 glide bombs, confirming the destruction of the targeted site.
These developments come amid a mutual escalation in aerial attacks between Russia and Ukraine. Ukrainian authorities announced that a Russian strike on Kyiv and its surroundings on August 20 killed 16 people and injured around 40 others. Meanwhile, Russian authorities reported in recent days that areas within its territory had been hit by Ukrainian drone attacks.
Russia launched its military operations in Ukraine on February 24, 2022, stating that the operation aims to protect the populations of Donbas. Ukraine rejects this justification, describing it as an invasion of its territory. (End) Dan / T.M.A
