Pakistan and Syria discuss regional developments and enhance defense cooperation

Islamabad, Aug 21 (KUNA) -- Pakistan’s Chief of the Army Staff, General Asim Munir, held talks today with Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Al-Shaybani on developments in the regional security situation and ways to enhance defense and security cooperation between the two countries.

The Public Relations Department of the Pakistan Army said in a statement that the meeting took place between the two sides at the General Headquarters of the Armed Forces in Rawalpindi, as part of Foreign Minister Al-Shaybani’s visit to Pakistan.

The statement added that the two sides discussed a number of issues of mutual interest, alongside developments in the regional security situation and prospects for strengthening bilateral cooperation in the fields of defense and security.

It clarified that Munir emphasized the deep historical fraternal relations between Pakistan and Syria, and outlined his country’s vision regarding global peace and regional stability, stressing the importance of cooperation and concerted efforts to address shared security challenges.

For his part, the Syrian Foreign Minister praised the professional role played by the Pakistan Armed Forces in supporting peace and stability in the region.
