U.S. Central Command announces the arrival of the aircraft carrier George Washington to the Middle East

Washington, Aug 20 (KUNA) -- The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on Thursday the arrival of the aircraft carrier USS George Washington in the Middle East to replace the USS Abraham Lincoln, which departed the region last week. CENTCOM stated in a post on the X platform that “the George Washington Strike Group is operating in the Middle East as part of a scheduled deployment, following its arrival yesterday in the U.S. Central Command area of operations.” Last week, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that the USS Abraham Lincoln would leave the Middle East in a routine move, while the USS George Washington prepared to replace it. Trump rejected in press remarks allegations that families of military personnel aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln were concerned about living conditions on the ship, which had been deployed to support operations in the Middle East for nearly nine months. On this matter, he said, “No. Those claims are not true. The time the aircraft carrier has spent in the region has not been long, in fact.” (End) A.M.M. / M.A.A.
