Pakistan reaffirms its support for Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity

Islamabad, Aug 20 (KUNA) -- Pakistan reaffirmed today its steadfast support for Syria’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, while expressing strong backing for Damascus regarding the Golan Heights. The office of the Pakistani Prime Minister said in a statement that this position was conveyed during a meeting between Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani in Islamabad. Sharif emphasized the need to translate the historic and multifaceted friendship between Pakistan and Syria into broader cooperation in political, defense, trade, investment, education, and human resource development. He also invited Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa to pay an official visit to Pakistan at a date to be agreed upon by both sides. For his part, the Syrian Foreign Minister conveyed President al-Sharaa’s greetings to the Pakistani Prime Minister and briefed him on developments in the political transition phase and reconstruction efforts in Syria. Al-Shaibani expressed his country’s gratitude to Pakistan for its continuous support of Syria over the past years, affirming his government’s interest in reviving bilateral relations and enhancing cooperation between the two countries, including accelerating the establishment of institutional mechanisms for cooperation.
