State of Kuwait participates in the World Equestrian Games in Aachen, Germany

Berlin, August 20 (KUNA) -- Kuwait is participating in the World Equestrian Championships being held in Aachen, western Germany, which runs until August 23 and features a select group of the world’s top riders and horses from across the globe. Kuwait is represented by Ali Al-Kharafi, who competes in show jumping, and Hussein Al-Kharafi, who competes in the youth show jumping category.
Ghazi Al-Jarawi, Secretary-General of the Kuwait Equestrian Federation, told the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that Kuwait’s participation in the championship is particularly significant as it marks the country’s debut in show jumping, reflecting the development of Kuwaiti equestrian sports and its growing presence on the international stage. The participation of the two riders offers an important opportunity to compete against leading global equestrians and gain further experience in high-level international competitions.
This participation also helps highlight Kuwait’s name at global sporting forums and opens avenues for Kuwaiti riders to benefit from advanced technical and organizational expertise, thereby supporting efforts to develop equestrian sports and raise the level of competition both locally and internationally.
Aachen is hosting the championships from August 19 to 23 as one of the world’s largest equestrian events, 20 years after the city last hosted the World Equestrian Championships in 2006. The event brings together approximately 814 riders and their horses representing around 70 countries, along with 65 participants in the youth competitions.
The championships feature six main disciplines: dressage, show jumping, eventing, driving, freestyle riding, and para-dressage. The event serves as a gathering of the world’s elite equestrians and gains additional importance as one of the qualifying stages for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The show jumping competitions, in which the two Kuwaiti riders are participating, will take place during the second week of the championships and will see 145 rider-horse pairs from 31 countries competing in the first round. (End) A.N.J./T.M.A.
