Tunisia and India aim to raise bilateral trade to $1 billion by 2030

Tunis, Aug 20 (KUNA) – India announced on Thursday that it and Tunisia aim to raise bilateral trade volume to $1 billion by 2030, up from the current level of around $500 million. At the opening of the Joint Tunisian-Indian Business Forum in the Tunisian capital, Indian Ambassador to Tunisia Divyani Utam Koprakad reaffirmed her country’s desire to reach a preferential trade agreement with Tunisia, which would help double the volume of exchanges between the two nations. She called for the conclusion of a bilateral agreement to protect and promote investments, as well as a double taxation avoidance agreement, to facilitate the activities of Indian and Tunisian enterprises and investments and to enhance the flow of business between the two countries. She noted that the pharmaceutical industry, artificial intelligence, information and communication technologies, and financial technology represent promising sectors for enhancing economic cooperation, alongside traditional areas of collaboration, emphasizing the importance of leveraging Tunisian expertise. She anticipated that the anticipated free trade agreement between India and the European Union, expected to be approved next year, would further attract Indian companies to Tunisia and the region, pointing out that Tunisia could serve as a gateway for Indian goods to the African market, particularly by taking advantage of opportunities offered by the African Continental Free Trade Area.
