Cairo, Aug 20 (KUNA) -- Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani held talks today on Thursday on ways to enhance the existing cooperation and coordination between the two countries to implement the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip.

The spokesperson for the Egyptian presidency, Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy, said in a press statement that the discussions took place during a meeting between President Sisi and the Qatari prime minister, who is currently visiting Cairo.

The statement said the meeting underscored the necessity for all parties to fulfill their commitments under the ceasefire plan put forward by U.S. President Donald Trump, in order to consolidate stability and contribute to the swift commencement of early recovery and reconstruction efforts. It also emphasized the need to enhance the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.

The statement added that the meeting also addressed developments in regional issues, with President Sisi highlighting the importance of containing the current regional escalation, taking into account its repercussions on regional stability, as well as its economic and trade impacts. In this context, he noted the strenuous efforts being made by Egypt to de-escalate the current tensions.

In this regard, the Egyptian president reiterated Egypt’s supportive and backing stance toward the security of sisterly Qatar and all Arab countries, and its firm rejection of any attempts to undermine their sovereignty and stability.

The two sides agreed to continue coordination between the two brotherly countries in connection with implementing the ceasefire agreement and to preserve regional peace and stability in general.

On the bilateral level, President Sisi praised the progress and growth witnessed by bilateral relations between the two countries, expressing his aspiration to continue enhancing these ties across various political, commercial, and investment sectors, including by building on the outcomes of the Egyptian-Qatari Supreme Joint Committee to elevate bilateral cooperation in different fields.
