Saudi Arabia and Qatar reaffirm the necessity of continued joint efforts to ensure the security of maritime routes in the region
Riyadh, August 19 (KUNA) -- Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan and Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani stressed on Wednesday the need to continue joint efforts to ensure the security, safety, and freedom of navigation in vital sea lanes in the region. The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that this came during Prince Faisal bin Farhan’s reception of Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman at the ministry’s headquarters in Riyadh to discuss recent developments in the region and diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions, contain tensions, and preserve regional security and stability. The statement added that both sides reaffirmed their support for Qatari and Pakistani mediation efforts and the role they play in advancing the settlement of disputes through diplomatic means. It noted that the two sides discussed during the meeting the importance of continuing coordination and consultation and harmonizing positions on current developments, thereby enhancing the effectiveness of efforts aimed at consolidating security and stability in the region. The meeting also addressed the fraternal relations between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Qatar, areas of joint cooperation, and ways to strengthen and develop them in line with the aspirations of the leaderships and peoples of the two countries.
