Libyan-French talks on efforts to unify Libya's military institution

Tunis, Aug 19 (KUNA) – Libyan Presidential Council Chairman Mohamed al-Menfi held talks today with Paul Soler, the special envoy to Libya for French President Emmanuel Macron, on the political situation in Libya and efforts to unify the military institution.

In a statement, the Presidential Council said the two sides discussed a number of priority political and economic files, foremost among them the process of unifying state institutions, the general economic situation, and ways to enhance economic cooperation between Libya and France, including exploring the possibility of opening a direct economic route between Tripoli and Paris.

The meeting reviewed the latest developments in Libya’s political situation, alongside the Presidential Council’s three-point vision and initiative aimed at advancing the political process through direct and effective Libyan dialogue, leading to sustainable national consensus that transcends temporary solutions, interim arrangements, and limited understandings.

The importance of unifying the military institution was reaffirmed, highlighting the steps taken by the Chairman of the Presidential Council in this direction to consolidate stability, protect state sovereignty, and support the path toward building a unified Libyan state.
