Japanese Foreign Minister: Stability in Yemen is linked to stability and development in the Middle East and the international community
Aden, Aug 18 (KUNA) -- Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi affirmed on Tuesday that stability in Yemen, which borders the Bab al-Mandab Strait, is directly linked to the stability and development of the Middle East region and the international community as a whole, reiterating his country’s continued support for the Yemeni government.
In a press statement released by the Japanese Embassy in Aden following his meeting with Rashad al-Alimi, Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council, Minister Motegi said that Japan contributes to supporting stability in Yemen through the aid it has provided so far, including food assistance approved last July, as well as financial support and contributions to the office of the UN Special Envoy to Yemen.
He added that, as a key member of the Yemen Maritime Security Partnership (YMSP), Japan also supports the capacity-building of Yemeni coast guard personnel to contribute to the realization of the Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP) vision, emphasizing his country’s desire to continue contributing to enhancing Yemen’s capabilities in maritime law enforcement.
He strongly condemned the recent series of attacks launched by Houthi militias against the Yemeni army, reiterating the importance of achieving peace in Yemen. (End) S.N.S / S.A.M
