Egypt and Britain Condemn Inciting Remarks by a Minister in the Occupation Government Against Palestinians

Cairo, Aug 18 (KUNA) -- Egypt and Britain condemned today, Tuesday, the recent remarks by National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir of the occupation government, which included calls to kill dozens of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip daily, encouraged the displacement of Palestinians from the Strip, and promoted the expansion of Israeli settlements.

The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a press release that this condemnation came during a meeting between Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and British Minister of State for the Middle East Stephen Doughty, who is currently visiting Egypt. The two discussed ways to enhance bilateral relations and address regional and international developments of mutual interest.

Minister Abdelatty affirmed that the condemned inflammatory remarks are completely contrary to the principles of international law and humanitarian values, exacerbate tensions, and undermine efforts aimed at achieving peace and stability in the region. He also reaffirmed Egypt’s support for US President Donald Trump’s peace plan and UN Security Council Resolution 2803, while fully rejecting Israel’s expansionist settlement policies, the escalating violence by settlers, and land confiscation in the West Bank. He emphasized the necessity of adopting a firm international stance against these illegal practices and supporting the Palestinian Authority.

The meeting also addressed developments related to Iran, where Minister Abdelatty stressed the importance of prioritizing the diplomatic track, enhancing dialogue, continuing mediation efforts, and avoiding military escalation. He underscored the importance of ensuring the security and freedom of international navigation in accordance with international law rules.

Regarding Sudan, Minister Abdelatty affirmed Egypt’s support for the unity, territorial integrity, and national institutions of Sudan, as well as the necessity of reaching a political settlement that safeguards the interests of the Sudanese people. He also highlighted the need to continue coordination with regional and international partners to contain the crisis and alleviate the suffering of the Sudanese people.

On the bilateral front, Minister Abdelatty stressed the importance of continuing to enhance consultation and coordination between the two countries, building on the momentum witnessed in bilateral relations across various fields, particularly following the convening of the third session of the Egyptian-British Participation Council last June, and continuing to monitor the implementation of the participation agreement between the two countries. He also emphasized the importance of enhancing the access of Egyptian exports to the British market, which would contribute to increasing the volume of trade and encouraging further British direct investments in the Egyptian market, thereby serving mutual interests.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the two ministers witnessed the signing of a Declaration of Intent between Egypt and the United Kingdom on migration. Minister Abdelatty expressed Egypt’s hope that the declaration would represent a new step to enhance cooperation between the two countries. He affirmed that combating illegal migration requires a comprehensive approach that combines cracking down on criminal networks and human trafficking, addressing the root causes of the phenomenon, supporting development and job creation, alongside enhancing regular migration pathways.
