Yemeni Prime Minister: Houthi militia attacks on ports and ships threaten international trade

Aden, Aug 17 (KUNA) -- Yemeni Prime Minister Shuaib al-Zandani affirmed on Monday that the Houthi militia’s targeting of ports and civilian infrastructure, attacks on commercial vessels, and threats to navigation constitute a serious escalation aimed at undermining the national economy and citizens’ interests, while jeopardizing the security of international maritime navigation and trade.

State news agency Saba reported that these remarks were made during al-Zandani’s visit to the Ministry of Transport in Aden, where he held meetings with its leadership to discuss ways to develop the ministry’s institutions and its plans for addressing current developments, as well as to enhance readiness across various transport facilities amid the Houthi militia’s military escalation, including its targeting of ports, civilian infrastructure, and commercial ships.

Al-Zandani stated that the Yemeni government is addressing these developments with a high degree of responsibility, emphasizing that protecting vital infrastructure and ensuring the continued operation of ports, border crossings, and transport across all sectors remain a top priority at this stage. He stressed the need for the Ministry of Transport, along with its affiliated bodies and institutions, to fully grasp the precision of the current historical moment and respond with discipline, readiness, and rapid action.

For his part, Yemeni Minister of Transport Mohsen al-Amri affirmed that the ministry has worked to raise preparedness and readiness levels across various sectors and has implemented a number of precautionary measures to strengthen the capacity to handle emergency developments.
