Arab League Secretary-General welcomes Arab-Islamic statement condemning the occupation's rejection of the Road Map agreement

Cairo, August 17 (KUNA) -- Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy welcomed on Monday the statement issued on Sunday by eight Arab and Islamic countries, which condemned Israel’s rejection of the road map for completing the second phase of the peace agreement concerning Gaza.

In a statement, Fahmy said that the stance of the occupying Israeli entity and its prime minister toward this plan reveals a clear intention to thwart mediators’ efforts and entrench the status quo in the Gaza Strip, thereby continuing the policy of daily killings, expanding the occupation, and preventing any resolution of the deteriorating humanitarian conditions faced by more than two million Palestinians in the Strip.

He stressed that the Israeli prime minister is underestimating international will, as manifested in the peace plan and United Nations Security Council Resolution 2803, as well as the arrangements reached later by mediators, which include restricting Hamas’s weapons, simultaneous withdrawal of Israeli occupation forces, deployment of an international stabilization force, and transfer of administrative authority to the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza.

Fahmy affirmed that Hamas’s acceptance of these arrangements, coupled with the occupying entity’s failure to honor its commitments, places full responsibility on Israel, as well as the moral and political responsibility on the international community, led by the United States in its capacity as the guarantor of the agreement.

He clarified that the occupying entity seeks to impose its will not only on Palestinians but on the entire world, without assuming any obligations, whether to halt killings or withdraw from the territories it occupied in the Gaza Strip, a stance that defies any logical standard.

He called on countries interested in resolving the conflict in the region to adopt a unified and clear position against the extremist Israeli government, which rejects the principle of establishing a Palestinian state, and to compel it to pay the price for its disregard of international will.
