(UNESCO): We are working to meet urgent needs in Ukraine

Paris, August 16 (KUNA) -- The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) confirmed on Sunday that it is working to meet urgent needs in Ukraine while contributing to longer-term recovery and reconstruction efforts, in close collaboration with national authorities and international partners. This was stated in a UNESCO statement issued on the sidelines of Director-General Ahmed Mohamed Ali’s first official visit to Ukraine, where he held discussions with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and several members of the Ukrainian government on the organization’s activities in the fields of education, culture, science, communication, and information, as well as on priorities for future cooperation. The organization noted that since the beginning of the Russian-Ukrainian war in February 2022, UNESCO has mobilized $79 million through its partners to support Ukraine’s recovery, representing the largest crisis response undertaken by the organization worldwide to date.
