President of the Arab Parliament calls on Slovenia and the European Parliament to reject any infringement on the recognition of the State of Palestine
Cairo, August 15 (KUNA) – The President of the Arab Parliament, Mohammed Al-Yamahi, called on the Slovenian Parliament and the European Parliament on Saturday to reject any initiatives aimed at withdrawing recognition of the State of Palestine or relocating the Slovenian embassy to the occupied city of Jerusalem, warning of the dangerous repercussions of such steps on the future of peace and stability in the region.
In a statement, the Arab Parliament said that Al-Yamahi had addressed official messages to both the National Assembly and the National Council of Slovenia, as well as to the European Parliament, to emphasize the rejection of these initiatives, which would violate international law and resolutions of international legitimacy, and undermine efforts aimed at implementing the two-state solution and ending the occupation.
Al-Yamahi stressed that recognizing the State of Palestine is not a temporary political measure that can be reversed, but rather a legal and moral commitment that embodies respect for the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination, a fixed and inalienable right recognized by the majority of countries worldwide.
He warned that relocating any embassy to the occupied city of Jerusalem constitutes a blatant violation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 478, conflicts with relevant international resolutions, particularly Resolutions 242, 338, and 2334, and contradicts the European position, which affirms that the status of Jerusalem is among the final-status issues that cannot be resolved except through negotiations and in accordance with resolutions of international legitimacy.
He also called for utilizing parliamentary and political tools to preserve the European stance supporting Palestinian rights and to prevent any attempts to legitimize the occupation’s policies based on annexation, settlement, and the imposition of facts on the ground.
He referred to the advisory opinion issued by the International Court of Justice on July 19, 2024, regarding the legal consequences arising from the policies and practices of the Israeli occupation in the occupied Palestinian territory, emphasizing the importance of respecting the principles and rules of international law concluded in that advisory opinion.
Al-Yamahi affirmed that any reversal of recognition of the State of Palestine, or any attempt to change the legal status of the occupied city of Jerusalem, would only undermine the international system based on respect for international law and encourage the occupation to continue its expansionist policies, thereby threatening regional and international security and stability.
He reiterated that the Arab Parliament would continue its initiatives and communications with various regional and international parliaments to mobilize international support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people and to counter any attempts aimed at liquidating the Palestinian cause or diminishing the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people.
