Lebanese President: Israeli occupation attacks on the south threaten the negotiation track
Beirut, August 15 (KUNA) -- Lebanese President Joseph Aoun condemned on Saturday the continued attacks by Israeli occupation forces and their repeated violations of the “Framework Agreement” between the two sides, stating that such actions send a threatening message to the U.S.-brokered negotiation process by pressuring the Lebanese negotiators. This was stated in a statement issued by the Lebanese Presidency, quoting Aoun, who condemned “the ongoing Israeli attacks on southern areas, particularly in and around Nabatieh, and their repeated violations of the Framework Agreement, the Lebanese-specific Military Coordination Mechanism, and international laws protecting civilians, which resulted in the martyrdom of an entire family from Ansar town.”
Aoun stressed that these violations and attacks constitute “a clear message to the negotiation process and to U.S. efforts aimed at implementing this agreement.”
In a related development, Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri said in a statement that the continuous Israeli occupation attacks and the massacres carried out by the occupation’s air force in the Nabatieh district and southern areas represent “a blatant violation of the Framework Agreement and international laws.” Berri added that “the massacres committed by occupation aircraft in the towns of Ansar and Deir el-Zahrani, which claimed the lives of an entire family, fall within the context of completing a campaign of genocide and destruction, and demonstrate that the occupation does not value efforts and agreements.”
Berri called on Lebanese political forces to consolidate national unity to confront the repercussions, emphasizing the necessity for the sponsors of the ongoing negotiations between Lebanon and the Israeli occupation to assume their responsibilities.
It is worth noting that southern Lebanon has witnessed continuous military and field escalation since March 2, amid escalating violations and clashes along the southern border, resulting in hundreds of casualties, the displacement of thousands of residents from border villages and towns, and severe damage to infrastructure and property.
