New Delhi, August 15 (KUNA) -- Kuwait’s Ambassador to India, Meshal Al-Shammari, affirmed today the strength and depth of Kuwait-India relations during his participation in the annual celebrations held at the Presidential Palace in New Delhi to mark India’s 80th Independence Day.

In a statement, the Kuwaiti Embassy in New Delhi said that Ambassador Al-Shammari attended the Independence Day ceremonies and festivities at the invitation of the President of India, in the presence of senior Indian government officials, ambassadors, heads of diplomatic missions in New Delhi, and a select group of business leaders and activists in the cultural and social fields.

Ambassador Al-Shammari conveyed his warmest congratulations and best wishes to the leadership and the friendly people of the Republic of India, commending the Indian people’s journey toward freedom, progress, prosperity, and pluralism, which have characterized India over the decades.

Seizing the occasion, Al-Shammari underscored the robust and long-standing historical ties between the State of Kuwait and the Republic of India, whose roots extend back through long eras of commercial, cultural, and people-to-people exchanges prior to the establishment of formal diplomatic relations in the early 1960s. He noted that the bright historical trajectory of bilateral relations between Kuwait and India has continued to flourish in political, economic, investment, and mutually beneficial fields.

The ambassador appreciated the positive role played by the Indian community residing in Kuwait, which serves as a living bridge of connection between the two friendly peoples.

He pointed out that this year marks the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two friendly countries, reaffirming Kuwait’s commitment to strengthening existing cooperation through the Kuwait-India Strategic Partnership, encouraged by the leaderships of both countries. He emphasized the importance of deepening and advancing this partnership to broader horizons based on mutual respect, in a manner that serves the common interests of the two countries and their friendly peoples.
