Council of Private Universities: Acceptance of 7,989 Students in the 2026/2027 Internal Scholarships Plan
Kuwait City, August 15 (KUNA) -- The General Secretariat of the Council of Private Universities announced on Saturday the acceptance of 7,989 students in the internal scholarships plan for bachelor’s and diploma programs for the 2026/2027 academic year, targeting holders of secondary school certificates or their equivalents.
In a press statement, Council Secretary-General Dr. Jassem Al-Ali said the admission process was conducted in accordance with approved regulations and standards, within the framework of the Council’s efforts to develop admission policies and strengthen their alignment with labor market needs and the country’s development priorities.
Al-Ali added that the Council had recently reviewed the quotas and majors offered under the internal scholarships plan, expanding the availability of majors in demand by the labor market, including technological and digital fields, while reducing offerings in areas where demand is declining, with a view to potentially halting admissions in those fields next year based on labor market indicators and needs.
He noted that this year’s admissions under the internal scholarships plan were redirected toward majors more closely aligned with the actual and future needs of the labor market, thereby enhancing the capacity of the higher education system to absorb secondary school graduates and broadening educational options and opportunities for students to enroll in higher education institutions in academic disciplines and pathways that match the country’s needs.
He clarified that this approach also contributes to better matching educational outputs with the needs of both public and private sectors, without compromising admission standards or academic quality. The Council of Private Universities continues to periodically review the distribution of majors and admission numbers based on data, indicators, and the requirements of various stakeholders.
Al-Ali emphasized that these reviews aim to ensure the flexibility of the internal scholarships plan and its ability to keep pace with labor market changes, while reducing overcrowding in majors with declining employment prospects. He urged accepted students to visit their assigned universities and colleges according to the specified timelines to complete final registration requirements and submit original secondary school certificates.
He also announced that appeals regarding the results of the internal scholarships plan admissions would be accepted starting Sunday, August 16, 2026, until 12:00 noon on Saturday, August 22, 2026, in accordance with procedures established by the General Secretariat of the Council of Private Universities.
He stressed the importance of adhering to academic regulations and systems, complying with the provisions of the internal scholarships regulations, and making optimal use of available educational opportunities to enhance students’ academic journeys and prepare them to become effective national cadres who contribute to serving Kuwait and supporting its development trajectory.
Al-Ali congratulated the accepted students, wishing them success and achievement in their university studies.
