Egyptian President Discusses Bilateral Relations and Regional and International Developments with His Ukrainian Counterpart

Cairo, Aug 14 (KUNA) -- Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi held talks today, Friday, with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskyy on bilateral relations and regional and international developments.

In a statement, Egyptian Presidential Spokesman Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy said the discussion took place during a phone call in which the Egyptian president explored ways to advance bilateral ties between Egypt and Ukraine across various fields, particularly in commercial and economic sectors.

According to the statement, the two presidents agreed to continue working to increase trade between the two countries, as well as to identify cooperation opportunities in several promising sectors, in a manner that serves the interests of both the Egyptian and Ukrainian peoples.

The spokesperson clarified that the call also addressed developments in the Middle East region, where al-Sisi highlighted Egypt’s continuous efforts aimed at de-escalating regional tensions, emphasizing the importance of resolving current regional tensions through peaceful means to preserve peace and stability in the region.

In this regard, al-Sisi called for regional and international efforts to converge to halt current escalation, taking into account its negative impacts on security, stability, and international trade flows.

The spokesperson said President Zelenskyy, for his part, appreciated Egypt’s efforts in this context, expressing his agreement with his Egyptian counterpart’s view on the necessity of de-escalating current tensions.

Zelenskyy also reviewed developments in the Russian-Ukrainian war, commending Egypt’s commitment to ending the conflict.

In this regard, the Egyptian president reiterated his country’s supportive stance toward reaching a political settlement for this crisis, expressing Egypt’s readiness to provide support for political resolution efforts at the earliest opportunity.
