Yemeni Army announces thwarting of Houthi militia attack west of Taiz Governorate

Aden, Aug 14 (KUNA) -- The Yemeni army confirmed on Friday that it thwarted an attack launched by Iran-backed Houthi militias on its positions in the Al-Burh front west of Taiz governorate, resulting in the killing and wounding of dozens of militia fighters and the destruction and burning of several of their vehicles and military sites.

The media center of the Yemeni Armed Forces stated that the Houthi militias deployed large numbers of their fighters to carry out the attack, using various types of weapons, including artillery, mortars, and drones. However, the armed forces managed to detect the movements, respond effectively, and foil the assault.

It added that the clashes resulted in the killing and wounding of dozens of members of the terrorist Houthi militias, as well as the destruction and burning of several of their crews, barracks, artillery pieces, and military vehicles.

The center noted that the attack comes as part of the Houthi militias’ attempts to compensate for their recent losses on the western fronts, emphasizing that the armed forces inflicted heavy casualties on the attackers and forced the survivors to flee.

In the same context, Yemeni army media reported that the Houthi militia targeted coastal directorates along the Red Sea over the past few days with 36 ballistic missiles and 42 drones, in addition to attacks using explosive-laden boats, without achieving any military objectives. It clarified that air defenses shot down 11 drones before they reached their targets, while the navy and coast guard destroyed two explosive-laden boats before they reached the port of Mokha on the Red Sea.
