Speaker of the Arab Parliament Condemns Iran's Targeting of Two Emirati Tankers in the Strait of Hormuz

Cairo, August 14 (KUNA) -- Arab Parliament Speaker Mohammed Al-Yamahi on Friday condemned Iran’s targeting of two tankers belonging to the UAE’s ADNOC company in the Strait of Hormuz, warning of the repercussions of continued attacks on global energy security and the safety of maritime navigation.

In a statement, Al-Yamahi affirmed that the security of international sea lanes, freedom of navigation, and safe passage are not subjects for negotiation or tools for political pressure. He stressed that the continued targeting of commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz threatens international maritime safety and casts dangerous repercussions on global trade flows, energy security, and market stability, extending beyond the region’s borders.

He reaffirmed the Arab Parliament’s full solidarity with the United Arab Emirates and its steadfast support in the face of any attacks targeting the UAE’s security, sovereignty, and interests. He emphasized his backing for all lawful measures undertaken by the UAE to protect its security, the safety of its citizens, and its property.

Al-Yamahi stressed that the security and stability of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries are an integral part of the security and stability of the Arab region, calling for full adherence to the rules of international law, respect for freedom of maritime navigation, and the guarantee of safe and unconditional passage through the Strait of Hormuz.

He called on the international community and the UN Security Council to assume their responsibilities and work to prevent any practices that could undermine regional stability or endanger international economic and commercial interests.
