Kuwait City, Aug 14 (KUNA) -- August 14:

1962 – Kuwait’s Amir, Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salim Al-Sabah, issued a law regulating the establishment of prisons, their locations, and their appointment.

1962 – Kuwait’s Amir, Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salim Al-Sabah, issued a decree establishing the Planning Council as an independent body for planning and development.

1983 – Kuwait’s Amir, Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, issued a decree establishing an Advisory Council for Media, chaired by the Minister of Information, tasked with preparing studies and research related to media policy and the means of implementing it.

1983 – Kuwait’s Amir, Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, issued a decree regulating the Kuwait Stock Exchange with the aim of developing the financial market.

1989 – Kuwait’s Amir, Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, issued a decree concerning the governorate system in the country, stipulating that each governorate be headed by a governor who manages its affairs, assisted by a governorate council.

1991 – A Kuwaiti fire brigade team of 26 members participated in extinguishing Kuwaiti oil wells set ablaze by the Iraqi regime during its occupation of Kuwait.

2005 – Businessman Abdulrahman Al-Bashir Al-Bassar passed away at the age of 95.

2010 – Poet Ahmed Al-Saqaf passed away at the age of 92; he was one of the prominent pillars of literature and culture in Kuwait.

2013 – The Kuwait Red Crescent Society sent medical and food aid to relieve drought victims in Somalia.

2017 – The Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research announced that it had been granted a patent by the United States Patent and Trademark Office for the creation of water desalination plants via freezing.

2017 – Imam and preacher of the Grand Mosque, Sharia College professor Dr. Walid Al-Ali, and preacher Fahd Al-Husseini were martyred in an armed terrorist attack targeting a restaurant frequented by foreigners in Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso. The two deceased were visiting the country on a da’wah mission as part of the African Continent Committee of the Islamic Heritage Revival Society.
