Bahrain condemns the reprehensible Iranian attack on two ADNOC tankers in the Strait of Hormuz

Manama, August 13 (KUNA) — The Kingdom of Bahrain expressed its strong condemnation and deep outrage today, Thursday, over the reprehensible Iranian attack that targeted two tankers belonging to the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) as they were transiting the Strait of Hormuz. In a statement, the Bahraini Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the attack constitutes a serious threat to regional security and stability, to the safety of maritime navigation, and a blatant violation of international law, the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, and relevant Security Council resolutions, including Resolution 2817, as well as resolutions of the International Maritime Organization. The ministry reaffirmed Bahrain’s full solidarity with and unwavering support for the sister State of the United Arab Emirates in all measures it takes to safeguard its security, stability, and vital interests, drawing on the deep-rooted fraternal and historical ties between the leaderships and peoples of the two brotherly countries. It emphasized that the security and stability of the UAE are an integral part of the national security of the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed the necessity for the UN Security Council to assume its responsibilities by taking firm and deterrent measures to compel Iran to immediately cease all hostile acts, respect freedom of navigation, and ensure the security and safety of commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and other international waterways. It warned against using the strait as a tool for coercion or economic blackmail, noting that this is essential to safeguarding energy security, stabilizing food and pharmaceutical supply chains, ensuring the smooth flow of global trade, and consolidating security, stability, and prosperity in the region and worldwide.
