Arab League and Turkey affirm the importance of Arab-Islamic coordination to secure a ceasefire in Gaza

Cairo, Aug 13 (KUNA) – Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan on Thursday underscored the importance of Arab-Islamic coordination to consolidate the ceasefire in Gaza and ensure the flow of humanitarian aid, leading to a complete withdrawal from the Strip.

The Arab League said in a statement that this came during a meeting between Fahmy and Fidan, who is currently visiting Egypt to discuss the latest regional and international developments and ways to enhance cooperation between the League and Turkey.

It added that Fahmy reiterated the Arab League’s position rejecting Israeli occupation policies and practices, as well as the grave violations committed against the Palestinian people, emphasizing that ending the occupation and establishing an independent Palestinian state remain indispensable foundations for achieving peace and stability in the region.

The statement clarified that the two sides agreed on the importance of continuing Arab-Islamic coordination to maximize international pressure to consolidate the ceasefire in Gaza and ensure the flow of humanitarian aid, and that the current trajectory should lead to a complete withdrawal and a genuine political horizon based on the two-state solution.

According to the statement, Fahmy listened to the Turkish minister’s assessment of the situation in Libya, following his visit to Tripoli and Benghazi, which he concluded on Wednesday. Fahmy reaffirmed the Arab League’s support for Libya’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, as well as the preservation of state institutions and the end of the state of division.

Fahmy highlighted the importance of advancing a national Libyan political process, supported by international efforts, to reach a comprehensive and sustainable settlement that leads to holding elections and unifying institutions. (End) M.M.
