Spain announces the inaugural 2027 Spanish Super Cup in Istanbul

Madrid, August 13 (KUNA) -- The Royal Spanish Football Federation officially announced on Thursday that the next edition of the Spanish Super Cup will be held in Istanbul, Turkey, in February of next year, noting that the tournament will return to Saudi Arabia in 2028.

In a statement on its official website, the federation said that, due to the inability to host the upcoming edition in Saudi Arabia because of the concurrent hosting of the Asian Cup, Turkey was selected to host the tournament for the first time, from February 2 to 7 of next year.

The statement indicated that Istanbul was chosen after reviewing seven bids to host the event, adding that the participating clubs are Barcelona, holders of the Spanish league title, and Real Madrid, the runners-up, as well as Real Sociedad and Atletico Madrid, the finalists of the King’s Cup.

It clarified that Barcelona and Atletico Madrid will face each other in the first semi-final, while the second semi-final will feature Real Madrid against Real Sociedad.

This will be the first time the Spanish Super Cup is held outside the Kingdom since 2021, when Riyadh hosted the 2022, 2023, and 2024 editions, while the last two editions were held in Jeddah. (End) H.N.D. / T.M.A.
