Arab League: Palestine joins the states that have ratified the Arab Convention on the Prohibition of Human Cloning

Cairo, August 13 (KUNA) -- The Arab League announced on Thursday that the State of Palestine has acceded to the (Arab Convention on the Prevention and Combating of Human Cloning), raising the number of Arab states that have ratified the convention to five. The League said in a statement that Palestine’s representative to the League, Mohannad Al-Aklouk, deposited Palestine’s instrument of ratification with the Arab League Secretariat in the presence of the supervisor of the Legal Affairs Sector, Minister Plenipotentiary Dr. Maha Bakheet. The statement added that the convention will enter into force 30 days after the deposit of instruments of ratification, acceptance, or approval by seven Arab states with the Arab League Secretariat. The convention, which was approved by Arab interior and justice ministers at their joint meeting in Tunisia in 2019, aims to enhance Arab cooperation in preventing and combating human cloning, as well as combating related crimes and prosecuting their perpetrators. According to the statement, 15 Arab states have signed the convention: Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar, the Sultanate of Oman, Jordan, Tunisia, Algeria, Sudan, Iraq, Palestine, Libya, Mauritania, and Yemen.
