Beirut: Signing of a memorandum of understanding with Britain to support security in Lebanon

Beirut, August 13 (KUNA) -- Lebanon and the United Kingdom signed a memorandum of understanding today, Thursday, to support security in Lebanon and enhance the capacities of its military and security institutions. The Ministry of Interior and Municipalities said in a statement that Minister of Interior and Municipalities Ahmad al-Hajar and Minister of National Defense Michel Mousa signed the memorandum with British Ambassador to Lebanon Hamish Coall at the ministry’s headquarters in Beirut. The signatories emphasized the importance of this partnership, which “reflects the depth of cooperation between Lebanon and the United Kingdom and the commitment to continue joint efforts in the security field and strengthen the capacities of Lebanese military and security institutions.” The statement noted that the UK’s program to support security in Lebanon aims to enhance efforts “to consolidate security and reduce factors contributing to instability in Lebanon,” as well as to empower security institutions that form the backbone of the Lebanese state, in order to “fortify them against internal and external threats.” The program includes improving the capacity to confront security threats, including counter-terrorism and combating criminal violence, alongside rehabilitating and equipping facilities and infrastructure, supporting digital infrastructure, and providing the necessary training for an intelligence-led policing model.
